HAPPY BIRTHDAY DOG CAKE - JASPER TURNS 3
Today is Jasper's 3rd birthday! Our rambunctious Miniature Schnauzer that we love like a child is growing up to quick. Bitter sweet it is.
Now that I am a stay-at-home-wife-working-so-very-hard-to-get-my-photography-business-ramped-up-in-Colorado, I have a little extra time on my hands. What does that mean? It means that I made a homemade birthday cake for our boy and photographed him enjoying it. Except the problem was, he was terrified of the cake. I think it is because he saw his sister Stella get yelled at for attempting to lick it, therefore he kept his distance for awhile. Once he tasted the icing I lost all his attention. Here is the super simple recipe that I used to create the dog edible birthday cake.
Dog Birthday Cake Recipe
Cake:
1 3/4 cup of almond flour
2 tablespoons of honey
3 eggs
3/4 cup of diced strawberries
1 whole strawberry
2 tablespoons of olive oil
Icing:
1 cup of plain yogurt
3 tablespoons of peanut butter/nut butter
Oven at 350 degrees, mix together cake ingredients and put into any olive oil greased dish of your choice. Bake for 20-30 minutes, checking every few minutes after 20 minutes. Once cooled, cut the cake into two or three round pieces. Take icing ingredients and mix together. If the icing is too runny, place in freezer to thicken it up. Take icing and place it in-between the round cake pieces and on top of cake (running icing was placed on top of cake for aesthetic appeal). Lastly, take a whole strawberry and place on top!
Tip: To preserve the cake before the photo shoot I place the completed cake in the freezer so the icing wouldn't run.
